Russian Caravan
Russian Caravan is a traditional name for a layered black tea blend with a hint of smoke. Our tasting notes describe a gentler smoky character than a strongly smoked single-origin lapsang.
The current ingredient statement identifies organic black tea but does not name the component teas. Brew a cup plain to gauge its smoke and malt before adding milk; check the package if the exact blend matters to you.

Ingredients: Organic Black Tea
How to brew
- Tea: 2.5 g of dry tea per 8 fl oz (240 ml) of water
- Water temperature: 212°F (100°C)
- Steep time: 3–5 minutes, then strain or remove the tea bag.
- Cups per ounce: Approximately 11 cups per ounce (28.35 g), using 2.5 g per 8-fl-oz cup. This estimate counts the first infusion only.
Start with this guide and adjust to taste. A larger mug or stronger brew uses more tea and makes fewer cups per ounce.

Banana & Peanut Tea Granita with Russian Caravan
Serves: 4
Ingredients
- 2.5 g Russian Caravan
- 1 cup water
- 2 cups ripe banana, sliced
- 1 tablespoon smooth peanut butter
- ¼ cup Vanilla Bean Sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Method
- Heat 1 cup water to 212°F. Steep the Russian Caravan for 3–5 minutes, then strain or remove the tea bag.
- Dissolve the sugar in the tea and let cool. Blend with the fruit, peanut butter and lemon juice.
- Pour into a shallow freezer-safe dish. Freeze for 3–4 hours, scraping with a fork every 30–45 minutes, until flaky. Spoon into four chilled bowls.
